Standard on the Ford Explorer base model, the Ford Explorer XLT, the Ford Explorer ST-Line, the Ford Explorer Timberline®, and the Ford Explorer Limited, the 2.3L EcoBoost® is more than your average base engine. This motor can pump out 310 lb.-ft. of torque and 300 horsepower. While the 2.3L EcoBoost® has a pretty impressive standard tow rating of 3,000 lbs. as it sits, the available Class IV Trailer Tow Package nearly doubles the Ford Explorer towing capacity to an exceptional 5,300 lbs.

3.3L Hybrid Engine

Don’t let the word, “hybrid,” fool you into thinking that this engine is anything short of powerful. In addition to being a planet-friendly powertrain option that is available for the Ford Explorer Limited and the Ford Explorer Platinum, the 3.3L Hybrid engine is a monster that’s capable of pumping out 318 horsepower and 322 lb.-ft. of torque. Moreover, when this engine is paired with the available Class IV Trailer Tow Package, the Ford Explorer towing capacity reaches 5,000 lbs., which led all hybrid engines in its class in the 2022 model. Even without the package, the engine can tow up to 3,000 lbs.

3.0L EcoBoost® V6 Engine

This direct injection engine, which is standard on the Ford Explorer ST, the Ford Explorer King Ranch®, and the Ford Explorer Platinum, is turbocharged with Ford Performance tuning to dominate the road with a whopping 415 lb.-ft. of torque, 400 horsepower, and the ability to reach 143 MPH. Not only that, but the 3.0L EcoBoost® engine is built with Auto Start-Stop Technology that saves fuel when the vehicle is stopped. When included with the Class IV Trailer Tow Package, this performance focused engine will provide the Ford Explorer a towing capacity of an astonishing 5,600 lbs.
